Compared with other http://www.syrauto.com/breitling-navitimer-world-replica-uk.html manufacturers that have been developing their own movements for a century or more, Cartier is still a relatively new kid on the block. However, it has not stopped the brand from presenting some stunning new calibres at the SIHH each year.Last year's star of the show was the Rotonde de Cartier Astroregulateur, while this year the house has rolled out the hammers and gongs for the omega Seamaster Aqua Terra replica and shown that it is a serious contender in the field.

Combining a minute repeater with a Hublot Classic Fusion Replica raises the bar considerably and there are only a handful of such complications in the market. In the world of minute repeaters, the lighter and bigger the case, the better the amplification of the sound of the gongs and chimes.

After much experimentation, the development team decided on a 45mm grade five titanium case, which not only offers aesthetic value but also audio excellence. The feature to boast about, however, is the silent air governor which eradicates the grinding sound when the minute repeater is activated, thereby making the chimes clearer.

The titanium case houses the new calibre 9402 MC movement, which is manually wound with the time, flying tourbillon and minute-repeater function. A skeletonised dial allows all the minute-repeater functions to be seen clearly and, despite the complicated nature of the watch, the appearance bears Cartier's trademark clean face. The novelty, which took five years in development, also comes in a rose gold version. Both options are offered in a limited edition of 50 pieces.

"Five years is the normal time for any complicated movement. But the hammers, gongs and dials make this even more complicated. We wanted to understand the sounds and to mechanically master those sounds," says Carole Forestier-Kasapi, director of movement development at Cartier.Forestier-Kasapi is one of the few women master watchmakers in the industry and has led Cartier's development team in coming up with, of late, the Astroregulateur, the Astrotourbillon, the Cartier de Calibre and the Santos-Dumont Skeleton. Being a young brand has brought certain advantages, says Forestier-Kasapi, who designed her first timepiece for Zenith.

"We learn and we try to do things differently. We don't have any prejudice because we're starting from scratch. It's an advantage because we look at things from a new angle."

The race for complicated movements is an intense one and Forestier-Kasapi admits that the world of watch-making is getting more complex. "It's easy to get a good idea once, but it's really difficult to create groundbreaking new movements year after year. But Cartier puts in place the necessary resources to comply with its ambitions in terms of staffing, machinery and the specific teams for assembly," she says.

Another of Cartier's new calibres resides in the Rotonde de Cartier Annual Calendar. The new Caliber 9908 MC self-winding movement provides maximum chronometric stability and efficiency. By incorporating an annual calendar mechanism directly into a plate of a 1904 MC Calibre, quick adjustments of different displays of the annual calendar can be made through a cascade control process, controlled by the winding crown.
